Annotation: Fourier analysis and sampling of optical signal, image processing, techniques of digital photography.

Course review:
1. Fourier analysis in temporal and spatial domains, spatial spectrum of 2D signals, description of light propagation by the impulse and frequency treatment. Non-coherent optical processors on the principles of geometrical and wave optics. Image recognition, neural networks. 2. Transmission function of the lens, optical implementation of the Fourier transform, optical transfer function for free propagation, principle of the spatial filtering, 4-f system and its applicatins. Coherent optical processors, holographic filters, anamorphic processors, discrete processors. Inverse filter, adaptive filter, Wiener filter. 3. Wave description of optical imaging, pupilová function, point spread function. Frequency analysis of the coherent and incoherent optical systems. Phase-contrast imaging. Image reconstruction. Aperture synthesis, super-resolution. 4. Principle of operation and the use of diffractive optical elements, methods of spatial light modulation. Mechanical, electrical and optical properties of nematic liquid crystals. Implementation of spatial light modulation by liquid crystals and magneto-optical and micromechanical elements. 5. Wave aberrations and methods of wavefront measurement. Principles and applications of optical tomography. Speckle interferometry. Optically information processing, the sampling theorem. 6. Recording of light in classical and digital photography, image digitization (sampling and quantization). The relationship between image resolution and signal sampling (Fourier analysis of 2D image). Recording of colours and digital image. 7. Nature of color perception, color measurement, colorimetric system. Color spaces device-dependent and device-independent. Color management, creating pictures on calibrated equipment. 8. Number of recordable brightness levels (quantization). Histogram of the image. Intensity image editing: negative of the digital image, editing the image contrast by exponential function (gamma correction) and by histogram equalization method. 9. Spatial image filtering. Adjusting image sharpness using linear spatial filters. Using the unsharp mask. Gradiient edge contrast enhancement. 10. Image processing in the frequency domain, using Fourier transformation and convolution. Design of the filters, sharpness adjustment. Selective filtering in the frequency domain (elimination of periodic artifacts).
