Annotation: Fundamentals of wave, electromagnetic and photon optics, methods of light description in various optical media, amplitude and phase modulation of light.

Course review:
Description and properties of optical media, non-homogeneous, anisotropic and gyrotropic media, utilization in gradient and polarization optics. Differential methods of light description, basic types of optical beams, parameters and physical properties, beam transformation and shaping. Description and experimental realization of non-diffracting and vortex beams, physical applications, transfer of momentum and angular momentum, principles of optical manipulations. Integral methods of light description, impulse and Fourier methods, solution of diffraction problems, description and utilization of light diffraction on periodical structures. Spatio-temporal optical effects, propagation and transformation of optical pulses. Transition from scalar to electromagnetic optics, spatially variable polarization states of light, experiments with radial and azimuthal polarization Analogy of wave (quantum) mechanics and wave optics, detection and reconstruction of optical signal, quantum mechanical interpretation of the paraxial wave equation, Fresnel transformation and measurement of quadrature operators.
