Annotation: Characteristics of piezoelectric materials, synthesis of materials, parameters definition, elements design, utilization in the measurements and control processes, sensors, actuators, energy harvesting systems.

Course review:
1. Characteristics and application of piezoelectric materials. 2. Description of the piezoelectric materials, parameters used, symbols, units, material properties with the focus on the electromechanical features. 3. Electrostriction effect, piezoelectric direct/indirect effect (DC/AC), pyroelectric effect, ferroelectric materials, poling. 4. Materials, utilization of ferroelectric materials, piezoceramics, design of new composite materials and its utilization. 5. Piezoelectric characteristics, piezoelectric coefficients, piezoelectric equations, dielectric parameters: permittivity, piezoelectric coupling factor k, dynamic behavior of piezoelectric material. 6. Ways of measuring and analysis of mechanical vibrations, measuring with the help of impedance analyzer, fixing the piezoelectric elements, measuring with the help of laser vibrometer. 7. Measurement of vibration with the help of piezoelectric accelerometers, characteristics of Brüel & Kj?r 4508B sensor and its connection, test measurements. 8. Utilization of piezoelectric materials in the energy harvesting systems.
