Annotation: Gas sorption, physisorption, chemisorption; specific surface area and porosity measurement; adsorbents, adsorbates. Measurement of adsorption isotherms and classification; hysteresis loops, microporosity, mezoporosity. BET theory; isotherms evaluation, capillary condensation. Chemisorption, catalysts surface characterization, material analysis for gas storage.

Course review:
1. Sorption of gases, physisorption, chemisorption, specific surface area and porosity measurement; adsorbents, adsorbates. Measurement of adsorption isotherms and classification; hysteresis loops, microporosity, mezoporosity. Adsorption isotherms, Langmuir isotherm, BET isotherm (BET theory); isotherms evaluation utilizing multipoint BET theory; single point specific surface area measurement, capillary condensation. 2. Material characterization utilizing the gas chemisorption, surfaces, catalysts, materials for gas storage (specific surface area of active sites, metal dispersion, crystallite size). Smaples preparation, physisorption vs. chemisorption determination. 3. Special techniques for gas storage in the microporosity analysis. Utilization of relevant gases (N2, Ar, CO2). Micropores characterisation with the width under 0.5 nm (supermicropores), determination of application limit for given gases. 4. Utilization of hysteresis loops of physisorption in the study of porous materials (multiple adsorption/desorption cycles). 5. TPR/TPO/TPD techniques and their utilization in nanomaterials study (temperature programmed reduction/oxidationúdesorption) with the main gases (CO2, NH3, CH4). Measurement evaluation - surface area, sorption properties, temperature dependencies. Study of catalysts, gas storage materials. 6. Examples of practical measurements and evaluation. 7. Specific surface area and porosity measurements of natural and industry materials, Materials characterization, results analysis, application in nanotechnology
