Course: Nanotoxicology

Department/Abbreviation: KEF/BNTX

Year: 2018

Guarantee: 'doc. Mgr. Jana Kukutschová, Ph.D.'

Annotation: The students will be introduced to the field of toxicology including interactions of nanomaterials with living systems at the molecular, cell, and organ level. The attention will be devoted to in vitro and in vivo methods used for testing toxicity of nanomaterials. The lecture extends the topics covered in the lectures Risks of Nanotechnologies and deepens the knowledge on environmental and health risks of nanomaterials.

Course review:
- Introduction, fundamentals of nanotechnology. - Types of exposure, toxicokinetics, examples of biotransformation. - Types of nanomaterials, toxicologically important parameters of nanomaterials. - Toxicity tests (in vitro, in vivo). - Examples of toxic effect of selected nanomaterials (oxidative stress, mutagenita, etc.).
